Mission

To Lead. To Build. To Grow.

“To lead in the creation of educational, wealth-building, and growth opportunities for those historically underrepresented throughout their careers as students, entrepreneurs and professionals.”

— NBMBAA® National Mission Statement

The Greater Maryland Chapter was founded to bring this mission to life right here in Maryland. For us, mission is not a statement on a wall — it is the lens through which we design every program, select every partner, and serve every member. When a student earns a scholarship through our chapter, that is mission. When an entrepreneur connects with a capital network through our events, that is mission. When a mid-career professional steps into an executive role they were mentored and prepared for, that is mission.

Empowering Visionaries

“To empower visionaries intellectually and economically to create a world where diversity and inclusion are universal.”

— NBMBAA® National Vision Statement

In Maryland, we envision a professional landscape where Black excellence is the norm — not the exception. Where talented Black students, entrepreneurs, and executives have access to the same networks, capital, and opportunities as anyone else. Where the wealth gap narrows because our community has been equipped with the tools, connections, and confidence to close it. The Greater Maryland Chapter is our commitment to that future — built one member, one program, and one partnership at a time.

About the NBMBAA®

The National Black MBA Association® was conceived in 1970 to help Black professionals coming into the corporate sector — largely for the first time — share experiences and insights to make the journey easier. By nurturing these new professionals, the organization helped early members navigate and ultimately succeed in unfamiliar and frequently challenging environments.

It is those professionals who rose up and reached back to bring up the next generation — through coaching, guidance, and mentoring. That spirit has carried through the decades. The members who followed found the same sense of connection and camaraderie, and have continued to reach back to uplift new generations. The NBMBAA® has a deep and rich history of enriching the lives of Black youth and professionals that we continue to celebrate today.

Today the NBMBAA® represents more than 11,000 active members, 40 professional chapters, and over 300 corporate, academic, and non-profit partners — all dedicated to developing alliances that create intellectual and economic wealth in the Black community.
