About the Chapter
Who We Are
The Greater Maryland Chapter of the National Black MBA Association® (NBMBAA®) is one of more than 40 chapters in the NBMBAA’s nationwide network, serving Black business professionals, entrepreneurs, and students across the Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area and the broader state of Maryland.
We are a member-driven organization committed to creating pathways to economic opportunity, executive leadership, and entrepreneurial success for Black professionals at every stage of their careers — from undergraduate students exploring business to seasoned C-suite executives driving enterprise.
Our Story
The National Black MBA Association was founded in 1970 by a group of Black MBA students and professionals who recognized that talent alone was not enough — access, network, and community mattered too. What began as a gathering of determined professionals in Chicago has grown into a global force with more than 20,000 members, 500+ corporate and academic partners, and chapters spanning North America.
The Greater Maryland Chapter carries that same founding spirit into the heart of one of the most educated and professionally accomplished Black communities in the United States. Maryland is home to some of the nation’s highest concentrations of Black-owned businesses, Black professionals with advanced degrees, and historically Black colleges and universities — including Morgan State University, Bowie State University, and Coppin State University. Our chapter exists to connect that talent to opportunity, and to one another.
Through high-quality programming, strategic partnerships with regional employers and institutions, and a commitment to community reinvestment, we serve as the premier professional home for Black business leaders throughout Maryland.
What We Do
Our programming is organized around five channels that reflect the full arc of a professional’s career:

Charter Members
The Greater Maryland Chapter was built on the vision and sacrifice of a founding group of professionals who believed that Black business excellence in Maryland deserved a dedicated home. These charter members established governance, built early programming, recruited founding sponsors, and grew the chapter from the ground up.
We honor their legacy and invite current members to carry that founding spirit forward.
